Localized Drug Delivery Systems: An Update on Treatment Options for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas

چکیده

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers in world, with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy being primary treatment modalities. The for HNSCC has evolved over time, due to which prognosis improved drastically. Despite varied options, major challenges persist. chemotherapeutic immunotherapeutic drugs are usually administered systemically, could affect patient’s quality life associated side effects. Moreover, systemic administration salivary stimulating agents radiation-induced xerostomia toxicities. Localized drug delivery systems (LDDS) gaining importance, as they have potential provide non-invasive, patient-friendly alternatives cancer therapy reduced dose-limiting LDDSs involve directly delivering a tissue or organ affected by disease. Some localized routes include transdermal transmucosal system (DDSs). This review will attempt explore different options using radiotherapy-induced damage their better experience patients, well obstacles that need be addressed render them successful.

Comprehensive MicroRNA profiling for head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.

PURPOSE The objective of this study is to investigate the significance of microRNAs (miRNA) in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN A global miRNA profiling was done on 51 formalin-fixed archival HNSCC samples using quantitative reverse transcription-PCR approach, correlated with patients' clinical parameters. Functional characteriz...

Update on squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck

At the annual ASCO meeting clinically relevant data concerning the management of advanced head and neck cancer that will influence clinical practice in the future were presented. Chemoradiation with high-dose cisplatin remains the mainstay of treatment for patients with locally advanced squamous cell head and neck cancer. Adjuvant therapy with afatinib following chemoradiation failed to show cl...

Squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck.

Emerging knowledge on how the dysregulated function of signaling networks contributes to the malignant growth of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC) can now be exploited to identify novel mechanism-based anticancer treatments. In this regard, we have observed that persistent activation of the serine/threonine kinase Akt is a frequent event in HNSCC, and that blockade of its ups...

Tumor Microenvironment in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas.

Recent studies about solid tumors demonstrated that tumor microenvironment has an important role in tumor progression, aggressivity, and metastasis process, in addition to genetic aberrations and molecular alterations of cancer cells. Therefore, the crosstalks between cancerous and noncancerous cells and metabolic changes in tumor microenvironment cause significant detrimental effects. The purp...
